Stephen Fort is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist and RoGEP Adviser with extensive specialist technical and management experience gained over the last 35+ years in many aspects of geotechnical, coastal and infrastructure engineering in the UK and overseas. Stephen has worked on many coastal landslide stabilisation and coast protection schemes and studies around the UK including; Lyme Regis, the Isle of Wight, the New Forest and N Yorkshire. Stephen is Atkins’ Ground Engineering Technical Authority on Coastal & Landslide Engineering and is the author of over 20 technical papers, many of which are on coastal issues.
Ground Engineering at the Coast – Coping with Climate Change
The effects of climate change in the coastal setting will be introduced in the context of the scenarios developed by the UK Climate Impacts Programme. The importance of understanding the influences of climate, groundwater and erosion on the coastal margins will be discussed, together with how they can be managed through engineering and environmental investigations and design to inform the selection, design, construction and resilience of an engineering scheme.
