WaveWalker BV Sponsors M&CCE Keynote Theatre
WaveWalker BV (a JV between Fugro and Van Oord) owns and operates WaveWalker 1 an innovative walking jack-up barge providing engineering solutions from land to sea. The award-winning eight-legged walking jack-up is capable of safe bi-directional movement whilst elevated – allowing it to walk over the seabed and relocate without floating.
Designed to operate in challenging conditions such as rough seas, within the surf zone, shallow transition zones, ecologically sensitive areas and on beaches WaveWalker 1 provides a safe and versatile base to deliver significantly better productivity than conventional jack-up or vessel-based methods. Typical activities include geotechnical site investigation, drilling, and blasting, trenching, pipeline and cable laying, marine construction and pile installation and offshore wind farm maintenance and other marine and underwater work.
WaveWalker 1 keeps working where floating equipment or conventional jack-ups would be delayed by weather, high swell or insufficient water depth. Efficiency is further improved by being able to support live-aboard facilities resulting in reduced downtime due to crew changes. WaveWalker 1’s ability to relocate in position without the use of supporting tugs can allow for the client to reduce their project programme, risk and cost.
WaveWalker BV can offer a full range of services from jack-up charter operations to full turnkey packages benefitting from in-house design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities, coupled with project management and highly experienced teams of offshore and nearshore marine specialists.
Adding to its diverse and international project portfolio, the barge has most recently been engaged on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power project in the UK to support the construction of a 500 m aggregate jetty. It was deployed with a full drilling spread, pile gate and 32 berth accommodation unit, effectively transforming the platform into a self-contained walking construction island.
WaveWalker 1 undertook a full scope of works between the top of the beach and the intertidal zone despite a 12 m tidal range - covering an impressive total walking distance of over 8 kilometers in 2017.
Attendees can visit the WaveWalker BV at Stand 4C110 (opposite the WaveWalker Theatre!) to talk to the experts and get a close-up view of a 1:50 scale model of the walking jack-up barge.
